Hernias are protrusions of abdominal contents through defects usually in the groin or the abdomen They are noted by patients as swellings which may spontaneously subside especially when lying flat. They may become uncomfortable or painful Hernias may result in significant complications and therefore all should be evaluated by a doctor for possible repair

GALL BLADDER SURGERY

Gallstones are a common condition particularly in women. They may or may not be symptomatic. Symptoms include pain in the central or right upper abdomen especially after eating fatty meals. It may also cause more devastating complications. Early evaluation is important and treatment involves removing the gallbladder which is commonly performed with laparoscopic ("keyhole") surgery.

KELOID REMOVAL &MANAGEMENT

There is no single mode of treatment that is considered best for keloids. Treatment is recommended based on the location, size and depth of the scar, whether the patient has had any previous treatment of the scar and the response to that treatment. It is therefore important to do a Surgical Consultation to have the scar assessed and for the appropriate treatment plan to be determined. Treatment options include compression therapy, occlusion bandage, intralesional corticosteroid injections, excision and radiation therapy.

WOUND CARE

Persons who have wounds from surgery or chronic ulcers require frequent dressing to optimize the conditions for healing and prevention of infection. This involves regular cleaning and sterile dressing of the wound. It may also involve debridement which is the removal of dead tissue, systemic treatment with antibiotics, or removal of the limb or appendage where infection threatens the persons life.

LUMPS AND BUMPS

Surgical removal of lumps and bumps is carefully done under local or general anaesthesia. The lump is assessed by our surgeon before making a plan for excision which may include radiological assessment of the mass before proceeding. After surgery the tissue that is removed is sometimes sent to the lab for evaluation of the type of tissues and to assess for the presence of cancerous cells.

BREAST LUMP MANAGEMENT

The detection of a breast lump is a distressing situation particularly because of the fear that it may be due to cancer, however there are many causes of breast lumps. Women ages 40 and up should get annual mammograms to detect cancerous and pre-cancerous cells.
